De Wierschuur

The Wierschuur in Oosterend was built in 1906 by the Terschellingers Willem Roos and Jan Hek. Due to the violent storms that sometimes reached Terschelling, a lot of seaweed washed ashore. This was removed from the dike and out of the water, after which it was dried and pressed. This was then made into bales to trade. After the construction of the Afsluitdijk was completed, the amount of loose weed decreased and there was not enough left to continue the work in the shed. After a thought of tearing down the shed, it is still used to this day. Now as a camping farm with 66 sleeping places.
