The first mention of this cage dates from 1655 in the context of a request for construction by Martin Tjallings from Hoorn. The cage was subsequently built and put into operation. The cage was initially known as the Jeltje Jans, later as Oostende and nowadays as Hoornerkooi. The cage type is Terschelling and had 4 traps in the past. The first registration was only done in 1936 by Sietse Jan Roos and Tjaard Schaap. The cage has been refurbished in recent years as part of the 'Kongsi of the duck decoy'.
