At 31.4 metres, the Seinpaalduin is the highest point on Terschelling and offers a spectacular view of West-Terschelling, the harbour, the Groene Strand and the vast Noordsvaarder. In clear weather, even Vlieland and the Frisian Wadden coast are visible. This dune, located on the west side of the island, protects the village from the strong westerly winds and houses a historic signal post. The signal post, from which the dune takes its name, uses coloured lights to provide information about the expected wind force for shipping on the Wadden Sea. Would you like to know more about this? The meaning of the colour codes can be found in the cycling guide Sporen in het Zand, available at VVV Terschelling. Various walking paths, some with stairs, lead to the top of the dune, from where you can enjoy the beautiful view. Next to the Seinpaalduin is the Kaapsduin with the historic Signal House, once an important naval bearing station. The Kaapsduin is accessible via a concrete path, so that wheelchair users can also enjoy the view.
