National Lifeboat Day

Marine Rescue stations KNRM Paal 8 and West Terschelling open their doors during a special lifeboat day.

On May 25, 2024, the Royal Dutch Lifeboat Association (KNRM) organizes Lifeboat Day. Lifeguard stations along the North Sea coast and IJsselmeer will open their doors to the public. Get to know the rescue work, the volunteers and the equipment of the KNRM.

KNRM rescue stations throughout the country have a fun program for young and old, ready to give visitors an idea of the special rescue work. Have a look at the boats, talk to lifeguards about their volunteer work and watch spectacular demonstrations, tours, films and activities for children.

And the best thing: during this special day, there is the possibility to take a trip on one of the lifeboats, a unique experience.

The KNRM is a charity company and does not receive a subsidy from the government. The contributions of more than 105,000 rescuers ashore makes it possible for the KNRM to be ready 24 hours a day to set sail and rescue people and animals in distress on the water. In addition, they form an important support base for the rescuers.

Possibilities for sailing depend on the weather, the crowds and alarms. A maximum of 12 people is allowed per cruise. Donors and Jonge Redders (youth members) must bring a donor pass/invitation voucher from 'Jonge Redders magazine'.

Lifeboat Day is also a great opportunity for non-donors to get to know the KNRM and their work. Who knows you'll become a donor.

Paal 8 and West open their doors from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
